About the Tombstone Tales Tour
Hear stories about Breckenridge’s movers and shakers, miners, widows and paupers, all of whom are buried in Valley Brook Cemetery. Built in 1882, this cemetery is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and is the perfect setting to learn about the people who lived and died making our history. Every ornate headstone and unmarked grave shelters the story of a person worth learning about.
This is a 90-minute outdoor walking tour offered in sun, wind, and snow. It is contained to the cemetery but is not a ghost tour or intended to be spooky. There are no restrooms or facilities on site. Guests should bring water and dressing for the weather is important. During winter months, guests should wear snow pants, a warm jacket, hat and mittens for comfort. Click here for more FAQs.

It provided us with a sense of the vulnerabilities of living in a mountain mining camp in those days. She took it to a second level explaining some of the historic things associated with funerals and their relationships to those hard times.”
The ornate iron work and carved headstones represent some of the earliest art from Breckenridge. As you stroll through the cemetery look out for recurring themes and imagery, such as lambs.

Parking Info
Tour guests may park inside the cemetery gates near the Sexton House (the little white house). Please be respectful of other cemetery visitors. Valley Brook is an active cemetery, open to the public during daylight hours. Do not block any access roads.
